Canned Apple Pie Filling Recipe

For my friend Ann who requested quite some time ago for my canned apple pie filling recipe. It is actually my grandma’s recipe and it is DE-licious!

Makes 6 quarts

Ingredients:

10 c water

4 1/2 c sugar

1 c cornstarch

2 t cinnamon

1/2 t nutmeg

3 T lemon juice

1 t salt

5 1/2 lbs apples

Nutmeg/Cinnamon Substitute: 1 c red hots

Directions:

Peal and slice apples, fill jars with apples. (This year I shook apples to help them settle so I would have more apples per jar than before.)

Boil Water, sugar, cornstartch, cinnamon and nutmeg together until thick.

Add lemon juice and salt.

Pour mixture over apples, use a butter knife to work air bubbles out.

Seal and put in a hot water (boiling) bath for 20 minutes. (Make sure bottles are completely covered with water)

Pull out, and spread bottles so they do not touch to cool.

As bottles cool you will hear lids seal.
